Through his practice and inventions, Professor Wassim Khoury has actively contributed to the development of new techniques for the practice of cardiac surgery, following the technical and technological developments of cardiac surgery in recent decades.
˚ COURSE OF A HOSPITALIZATION
Detection of heart disease requiring surgery.
The patient is usually referred by a specialized cardiologist either in coronography or ultrasound.
He then makes a diagnosis of heart disease requiring the intervention of a surgeon generally for a valve or coronary or congenital heart disease if it is child.
The patient is then referred to the surgeon, either in an outpatient setting, or directly in hospitalization or in direct hospitalization if he is brought urgently.
Valvular surgery has seen remarkable progress over the last two decades. Thus, the valvulopathy can be treated either by valve plasty, implantation of a ring giving back the shape and function to the valve or by its replacement by an artificial mechanical or biological valve.
Laennec-Necker Hospital Center is one of the largest centers in the world renowned for this specialty;pediatric cardiac surgery for the diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart disease.
It is in this center that Dr. Wassim Khoury spent most of his training and gained his experience.
